What is the Capital Metro Independent Investigations Team?
The Capital Metro Independent Investigations Team is comprised of detectives from the cities of Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater and Yelm police departments. This team has been assembled by agreement between those agencies for the purpose of providing independent investigations into police officer-involved critical incidents.
The team is activated when an incident occurs in one of the member cities. The agency whose officer was involved in the incident steps out of the investigative team in order to allow for an independent investigation.

Knight, Lacey Police Department [email protected] 360-456-7795 October 21, 2025, to January 7, 2026 Media Release by the Olympia Police Department 10/21/25: On Tuesday, October 21st, at about 3:15 PM, an Olympia Police Officer was involved in a shooting while investigating a disturbance at a residence in the 3400 block of 6th Avenue Northwest. The Washington State Office of Independent Investigations (OII) was notified by the Olympia Police Department about this incident. The Capital Metro Independent Investigative Team (CMIIT) is investigating this officer involved shooting. Information about this incident will be released by that independent investigative team soon.
